These guys can MOVE! If you want to do this stuff one day, keep working on your shoulder mobility and flexibility. That’s a good place to start.

If you’re interested in starting a break-dancing class at the gym, let me know, haha!

Here’s a little something on this beautiful Wednesday for the “Adrenaline Junkie”! I remember watching this segment during the Snowboarding Premier of this movie a few years ago and it blew my mind.

Enjoy, and please…. do not try this at home.

Short and sweet. Just like the little kid in it. Happy Weekend, from Whistler!!

When people ask me what kind of music I like, I always say “pretty much everything”. That’s not a cop-out answer, either, it’s the absolute truth. Hip Hop, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Salsa, Classical, Folk… the list goes on and on. One of my favorite artists out there, however, is RJD2. He was a prominent DJ in Columbus, Ohio (near where I went to College), and after I heard some of his instrumental hip hop beats, I was instantly hooked.

One of his songs, entitled “Work It Out”, features one of the more unique music videos I have ever seen! At first glance, one might think that this video is just a dancer performing amazing acrobatics with crutches, but the story is much cooler than that!

The star of the video Bill Shannon, aka “Crutch”, was born with a bilateral hip deformity. Because of this condition, he has Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, which is “when the ball of the thighbone in the hip doesn’t get enough blood, causing the bone to die.” Bill relies on crutches to help him get around. It doesn’t stop there, though… he has learned to use a skateboard to facilitate getting from place to place more efficiently! Check out this short video that shows more or him and his art.

The balance, strength and creativity he displays on a day to day basis is nothing short of inspiring to me.

You know what? I take back what I said before. This IS just a video about a dancer performing amazing acrobatics with crutches! Well done, Mr. Shannon. You are incredible!

I never really got into Mountain/Rock Climbing, even though I’ve lived in Colorado for over 4.5 years. I climbed a bit in High School, but that was all indoors. The bottom line, if we’re being totally honest… is that I think being out there, on real mountains, scares me.

A snapped cable could equal death. A loose boulder could be the end of it. While I feel comfortable dropping in on a double black diamond chute on a snowboard, I don’t like the thought of slipping or losing my grip while on the face of a mountain.

THESE GUYS, however, don’t mind as much.

Check out these amazing athletes!

Reading articles can be really helpful to many people. The words will resonate, and the information is retained.

I have a short attention span, however… so I like using “moving pictures”, also known as movies, to tell stories.
Check out this video, the story of Jay Rhodes, and how CrossFit has helped him come back from his days of being an elite athlete, to being “Fat Jay” as he called himself, back to an animal again.

After the last “Transformation” story I posted on this blog about “The Unconquerable Dave”, this story has a different feel. In Dave’s story, he lost 100 pounds and changed his life (and lifestyle) forever!

Knowing less about Jay’s story (which is still very impressive), it’s just a different kind of jump from before to after. He has taken his athletic ability from “normal person good”, to now being an incredible athlete and CrossFitter! These are two very inspiring men, and I hope you can take this video and see just what’s possible when you keep on pushing and never give up!

Moment of Awesomeness: 2/9/11

In the aftermath of what was a bummer of a Super Bowl for me (being raised in Pittsburgh, and a die-hard Steelers Fan), one video about football(?) has left me with a smile on my face every time I watch it.

Happy Moment of Awesomeness Wednesday!

Moment of Awesomeness? This post is more like… Moment of Panic!!

The Super Bowl was yesterday, so that meant the year’s biggest commercials being broadcast for the world to see.

Well, with what should have been an opportunity to relax, laugh and forget about life’s problems for a few hours, one commercial in particular left me incredibly uneasy. Is Kim Kardashian trying to single-handedly ruin the fitness industry?! I mean, could this commercial lead to millions of people around the world saying goodbye to CrossFit Gyms and hello to Skechers for their obviously truthful advertising? Why would I want to CrossFit for a few hours per week to get in the best shape of my life, when all I need to do is wear amazing shoes?

What do you guys think? Are we… is CrossFit in trouble forever?!?! Post your thoughts to the comments section.

Bryce, a friend of mine, shared this link via Facebook calling it “Inspirational and amazing.” After watching it, I would have to agree.

How many things “hold us back” from achieving something we strive for in life? My guess is most of us can come up with at least a few excuses. What about if you wanted to be a great skateboarder? Could you see not having any legs as a limiting factor? It’s a no-brainer, right? Wrong.

Stop. Let go of your fear of failure and go for it, whatever it is for you. Try to achieve that goal or accomplishment that seems out of reach. Pushing your mind and body to the limit, going outside of your comfort zone, that’s the kind of stuff that really starts to reveal and develop your true strength and character.

Go there. Spend some time in that uncomfortable place of fear, nerves and anxiety. You might exceed your own expectations in the process!

Enjoy the video.

Alec Hanson has done it. He promised an epic video when he reached his 50th Subscriber to his Drive Time with Alec Channel on Youtube, and he has not only delivered, but he has exceeded any and all expectations I had for it!

What is this “Smashby Training Challenge” you ask? Back on December 16th of last year, I wrote a post on Perfection. I discussed that “a lot of times perfection is something we think we need to reach. My goal is to always be: “Better than yesterday”. That means that you’ve worked hard, and improved an area of your life; hopefully helping to make you become a more well-rounded human being.”

Then I ended the post by challenging any reading my blog to attempt to recreate one of the closest things to “Perfect” I have ever experienced…. the DOUBLE DREAM HANDS VIDEO!!!

Well I won’t ruin the surprise, but let’s just say that even though the “video submission” is 31 days late, as the Competition Organizer, I have accepted a late entry.

ALEC HANSON WINS!! Congrats, Alec!! Your prize will be mailed to you by the end of the week!
If you haven’t subscribed to his channel yet, you really should by clicking here and then subscribing. His material is fun and he has some great opinions on topics that are relevant to either life, CrossFit or both!

Without further ado…. enjoy your Smashby Training Challenge’s first Winner’s video entry!!!:
