Oh my…… he’s done it. He’s finally done it. SOMEONE has finally created an effective ratio calculator for the Olympic Lifts, and some of their accessory counterparts.

If you known anything about Olympic Weightlifting in the United States, then you know the name Sean Waxman. A coach for nearly 25 years, he has owned and run Waxman’s Gym for the last 6+ years. The lifters that he has produced through his experience, his coaches on staff, and his personal style have gone on to produce great results at the national and international level, and has also helped train some of the top athletes in the CrossFit game.

When I saw some of my “high-profile” friends on Facebook share a link this morning, I didn’t think it could actually be what the Title of the post claimed, but it is!

You, the lifter, plug in your max Snatch and Clean and Jerk numbers. Then, based on what information you have you can also put in certain supplemental lifts or variations, for your Snatch (Overhead Squat, Power Snatch, Snatch Blocks Abv Knee, and Hang Snatch Below Knee) and your Clean and Jerk (Clean, Back Squat, Front Squat, Jerk, Clean Blocks Abv Knee, Hang Clean Below Knee). From that info, an INCREDIBLE summary of your lifts, along with feedback on ways to improve them.

Example, here are my numbers:

First it asked for my current lifetime PR’s for the two Olympic Lifts

Next, the variations of the Snatch and Clean and Jerk. You don’t NEED to have any of these, so I put in the ones I was fairly confident were correct

After that…. you click the “Evaluate Me” button. Complicated, huh?

The next part is where you get all of your feedback and suggestions. First, it shows the variance from your 1RM lifts, to the other variations and movements for each

I am a very visual person, so this was fun to see. However, by themselves, the graphs don’t mean too much. Here’s what followed

The site begins by specifically referencing the ratio between your snatch and clean and jerk. Then it goes on to give you a diagnosis and some suggestions on how to strengthen the supplemental movements to make yourself either stronger, more balanced, or perhaps more well-rounded in general.

This site is SO cool, and I think that every lifter and coach should reference it as a key resource to help identify key areas for improvement!

Lift well, friends.

Now that I’ve had 3 days in a row of “Extreme Sports” Moments of Awesomeness, I felt it was time to bring it back to some incredible Weight Lifting clips.

This video below (that I got from Zach’s facebook page) is from the 1996 Olympics, and features what is, in my opinion, the most epic Weight Lifting battle of all-time. Watch below as Valerios Leonidis and Naim Suleymanoglu go head-to-head.

There were 4 World Records broken in less than 5 minutes between them! Love this.

Well Alec, I’m not sure if this counts, but I had a pretty embarrassing moment happen during this morning’s Drive Time with Smashby. I listened to Toto’s “Africa” last night, and when Men At Work’s “Land Down Under” came on, I said it was by Toto. Le sigh.

So I’ve had more people talk to me about Drive Times, I had Jen Silva suggests some names for the show and I’m just about out of topics to discuss. Keep ’em coming, folks.

Today, I decided to devote a little bit of time to talk about WOD #3 of the 2011 CrossFit Games Open, strategy, thoughts, etc. Enjoy!

One of the fun things about CrossFit is that the workouts are constantly varied. One of the sad things about CrossFit is that some of their “named” workouts are named after Fallen Hero’s, who died protecting our freedoms. It seems like there are being more and more “Hero WODs” created, and each one brings an unpleasant reminder to us all that the rest of the world doesn’t get the rights to choose the way we do in life.

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and said how since I started CrossFitting, I have become noticeably more actively aware of how proud and grateful I am to be an American, and more and more thankful for our men and women in all of the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Officers for helping to keep us safe and live the lives we live. Anyways, enough about that, I just wanted to share my take on that.

Full extension for Casey!

Today also marked the first ALL OUTSIDE workout of 2011 at CrossFit Lakewood (at least that I’ve been a part of)!!! The workout today came from CrossFit Main Site and was another new Hero workout. It was heavy “ground-to-overheads” and a lot of running. By a lot, I mean 2.5 miles. That is the most running I think I have ever seen in a single CF workout, so personally, I was even a little nervous going into it.

Workout of the Day:
“Abbate”
Run 1 mile / 155 pound Clean and jerk, 21 reps / Run 800 meters / 155 pound Clean and jerk, 21 reps / Run 1 Mile

Athlete Results:
Jamie (105lbs)-
Alon (65lb / runs were 3/4 Mile, 400m, 3/4 Mile = 1 3/4 total)-
Times tomorrow.

Just another beautiful night at CrossFit Lakewood!

Notes from tonight’s workout:
Alon- First workout ever using the Clean and Jerk lift. It looked good, too!
Will- Just destroyed the run… his first mile was SUB-5:45, I think. SO fast.
Casey- Her first mile to start the workout, was the fastest timed mile she had EVER done. Yeah, PR!!
