I’ve tried to start writing on my blog again at least once per week for the last…. eight or nine months. Every time I start a post, however, I get paralyzed. I wonder whether or not what I’m writing is good enough. Whether or not I use commas in the right places. (I don’t, by the way.) Whether or not people will like what I have to say.

You know what? When my writing was at it’s peak, and when the highest number of people were checking in every day, I didn’t care about any of that. I just wrote to write. I just started blogging because I had something to say. Something I wanted to share. Sometimes I learned. Or my favorite posts, somethings I wanted to learn from all of you!

The sense of community we started here many years ago has been lost, and I really miss it. So, for the seventeenth time….
THE BLOG IS BACK!!!

My good friend Broderick always told me that to get better at writing, you write. Every. Single. Day. No matter how little, just do it.

Here’s to trying!

MOMENT OF AWESOMENESS is a segment on my page where I share things I’ve come across online. Typically, it’d be a video I saw on Facebook, and now Instagram, too. Since we woke up to snow here in Colorado this morning, and then my friend Erin shared this video with me, it seemed like a perfect time for me to post this one!

One of my favorite Snowboard segments I’ve watched was this one from JP Auclair (RIP) from the movie All.I.Can.

I’ve watched it at least once every winter since I saw it 6 years ago, and the video I saw today was inspired by this same epic run through the streets of Nelson, B.C. It was so great because I could tell in the first few seconds of the video that it was the same neighborhood!

Tom Wallisch crushes this video, entitled “Imagination”, as he follows in JP’s footsteps and makes the world his playground. I think my favorite scene is when he does a gate-stall on the fence, closes the gate, rides down a huge rail, then grabs the handle of the car for a lift, only to wall ride on the mural that was used in JP’s scene, which has had many more colorful birds added to it! When he does, the parents in the car comment on how it’s nice that something is finally being done with the mural. So great!

(Side note: does this remind anyone of Danny MacAskill’s Imaginate video?! Kids daydreaming of awesomeness, in mountain towns, while adults go on with their boring lives, none the wiser. Just sayin…)

Regardless, this video brought a smile to my face, and I hope it brings one to yours, too!

I hope you all have a great week. Here we go again!

-Tom

I am a huge fan of “Highlight Reels” for pretty much anything. A professional sports team’s championship run, an extreme sports season highlights, middle school spelling bee finals, I love ’em all!

The crew at Absolute Zero put together a pretty awesome video with some of their best moments from Mountain Biking and Skiing in 2011. Cleverly enough, the video below is called the “Absolute Zero 2011 Reel“.

The very final scene here is one of my favorites that has been featured all over. It is a ski jump “feature” that has 13 skiers going off in formation at almost the same time. Visually, I just find it breathtaking.

As ski season starts to pick up here for a lot of us, many of us have goals to use our training to help get us in better shape for the snow. I hope you like this!

SKI SEASON IS HERE!!!!!! I can’t believe it, but Arapahoe Basin opens TODAY!!! Sure the base is only 18″, but you need to start somewhere!

That being said, let’s take a collective moment of silence and pray that the snow gods look down on us favorably this year! Jack from Apres Powder shared this video that shows what I can only call “STUPID POWDER” from the crew at Salomon Freeski TV.

I should have my Season Pass within the week (What up, Epic Pass Local!) and when that day comes, it’s on.
The goal is to hit my first tracks by mid-to-late-November. (Too many CrossFit events between now and then, which I am NOT complaining about!)

It’s basically ski/snowboard season, so I’m going to be posting more stuff like this on the blog. Prepare yourselves!

Some of you may have seen the interview that my buddy Jack at Apres Powder did with me on how to best prepare for the Winter Sports season. Well that was the first event that got me jazzed to shred. The second, was seeing the Red Bull Media House and Brain Farm Cinema film The Art of FLIGHT… TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW for the premiers here in Denver/Boulder.

And then getting a photo op with the one and only TRAVIS RICE! (Who is the best snowboarder in the world.)

Needless to say, I’m pretty stoked for that first powder day. My buddy Josh isn’t helping too much, by posting stuff like the video below, either! I may be a snowboarder, but even those two-plankers like Bobby Brown can pull some jaw-dropping stuff. Check it out, and enjoy!

This is a pretty incredible accomplishment.  I cannot even imagine flying THROUGH a mountain!  “Bird Man” Jeb Corliss, does it again as he flies THROUGH Tianmen Mountain in his wingsuit!

CCTV.com gives the official recap:
“Tianmen Hole is a 360-foot-tall, 96-foot-wide, and 260-foot-long formation located near the city of Zhangjiajie in central China’s Hunan Province. Corliss will jump from a helicopter hovering at 6,000 feet and attempt to glide through the hole.”

To bring his story a little closer to home (since I’ve never been to China), here is another video of Jeb Proxy Flying at the Matternhorn in Switzerland!

I was lucky enough to get to snowboard there with some of my buddies a few years ago, so seeing this video brought back some memories!

Here’s the video

And to remind my buddies of that incredible trip, here are some pictures from us at Zermatt!

Today is the first day of fall, huh? Time FLIES! With Autumn right around the corner, that only means one thing….

WINTER IS ALMOST HERE!!!

Now, I love summertime. So much. Soooo much. Being outside in the sun is one of my favorite past times, but when that time of the year comes when the snow starts to fall… I’m ready to shred!

My buddy Jack, who runs the Apres Powder Winter Sports Blog that I’ve featured here quite a bit, wanted to take a few minutes and ask me about how I prepare (and recommend other people prepare) for another epic season of crushin’ pow.

Check out the interview by CLICKING HERE! I think Jack did an AMAZINg job! Thoughts?

Yesterday I said that the next three days of the Moment of Awesomeness posts would go from the dirt, to the snow, to the city streets. I can’t let you down now, can I?

After yesterday’s awesome mountain biking videos, we’re taking it to the slopes today with the trailer for the Legs of Steel Crew’s movie entitled Nothing Else Matters. There are some gnarly airs in this 3 minute clip, and the final scene with what looks like a dozen skiers is probably my favorite of the whole video.

Those of you (like me), who may want at least a few snowboarders in your trailers, check out this one from Toy Soldier Productions called “Set Your Sights.” Some epic hits in this one, too!

Jack (from ApresPowder.com) just sent me this link, and I don’t even know what to say… this is unreal.

I’m still LOVING summer, and I don’t want the warm temperature to end, but when winter rolls around I will be ready. So cool!

Well, it’s the weekend! I hope this weekend brings you TONS of fun, and that you can make the best of whatever your current city has to offer.

Personally, if I was near Squaw today, I’d probably want to enjoy myself like these guys.

Check out one of the best ski movies ever made:
