This is a pretty incredible accomplishment.  I cannot even imagine flying THROUGH a mountain!  “Bird Man” Jeb Corliss, does it again as he flies THROUGH Tianmen Mountain in his wingsuit!

CCTV.com gives the official recap:
“Tianmen Hole is a 360-foot-tall, 96-foot-wide, and 260-foot-long formation located near the city of Zhangjiajie in central China’s Hunan Province. Corliss will jump from a helicopter hovering at 6,000 feet and attempt to glide through the hole.”

To bring his story a little closer to home (since I’ve never been to China), here is another video of Jeb Proxy Flying at the Matternhorn in Switzerland!

I was lucky enough to get to snowboard there with some of my buddies a few years ago, so seeing this video brought back some memories!

Eating lunch with a so-so view

One day I was talked to CFLW athlete Casey Polk and trying to help her through a difficult situation. A quote I said to her has stuck with the two of us ever since that day:
“Awesome does not mean perfect. You are awesome ALL of the time.”

Well it turns out I’m not the only person out there who believes that we’re all awesome.

Check out the post that my awesome friend Molly King shared on Facebook today (below). The blog/website is called “Redefine Girly” and it prides itself on being a blog for “Pigtail Pals” and the empowerment of young girls and women. It’s a wonderful blog and a great place where parents can come together to share ideas on how to not let their daughters feel the “pressures” that this society puts on girls these days in our “hypersexualized girls’ marketplace” (from the site). This post, however, I feel applies to every single one of us out there!

I hope you guys read it, follow it…. and BELIEVE IT!

Seriously, after you read it… take a second… breathe and reflect. Let all of your insecurities go for JUST ONE MINUTE. Realize how awesome, strong, beautiful, confident, etc you should be, and then try to carry that feeling on for as long as possible today. Give it a shot, and let me know how it makes you feel!

Waking Up Full of Awesome

There was a time when you were five years old,
and you woke up full of awesome.

You knew you were awesome.

You loved yourself.

You thought you were beautiful,
even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers.

You loved your body, and the things it could do.

You thought you were strong.

You knew you were smart.

Do you still have it?
The awesome.

Did someone take it from you?
Did you let them?
Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough?
Why the hell would you listen to them?
Did you consider they might be full of shit?

Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model?
Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold?
Are you freaking kidding me?

Look at her. She is full of awesome.

You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back.

All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.

Today is the first day of fall, huh? Time FLIES! With Autumn right around the corner, that only means one thing….

WINTER IS ALMOST HERE!!!

Now, I love summertime. So much. Soooo much. Being outside in the sun is one of my favorite past times, but when that time of the year comes when the snow starts to fall… I’m ready to shred!

My buddy Jack, who runs the Apres Powder Winter Sports Blog that I’ve featured here quite a bit, wanted to take a few minutes and ask me about how I prepare (and recommend other people prepare) for another epic season of crushin’ pow.

He asks:
“I want to learn more about training the mind. I believe mental toughness/discipline/mastery or just an ability to direct one’s perception is key to achieving all manner of things in life, fitness included.

So, what ways can and should we consider this issue and direct our training?”

What do you think? Does anyone else approach goals and mental toughness the same way I do?

They’re trying to create an place of acceptance and tolerance. They hope to foster an atmosphere of not judging one another.

Last night the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games were featured during Prime time on ESPN2 (a Major Cable network!). For MANY of you, it may have been the first exposure you ever had to our sport of CrossFit. To avid CrossFitters, it was certainly the most “mainstream” exposure we’ve ever seen given to our sport.

Regardless of your stance and experience with it, what are your thoughts? Did you like learning about CrossFit and the CrossFit Games? If you knew about them already, do you think the shows last night did them justice?

I’m curious to how you all feel about it. All I know is that I was like a kid in a candy store watching some of my friends and other CrossFit starts tear it up! I’m a very active CrossFitter and a trainer at CrossFit Lakewood here in Denver, Colorado, so seeing my hobby and passion being presented to such a large audience actually filled me with a HUGE sense of pride!

Well? What's your answer?

Well folks, the Sport of CrossFit is turning heads yet again. This time, on a slightly larger scale.

From 5 years ago where the “CrossFit Games” were held on a ranch in Southern California with a few people, to all but selling out the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, CrossFit is about to receive a pretty grand stage to showcase what we’re all about.

Starting TONIGHT Wednesday,  September 14th, a recap of The 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games will be televised on ESPN2!!

Check out the video below showing what it will be all about, and the TV schedule I pulled from the official video. This is going to be SO COOL! Now, part of “our story” will be put out there for thousands (millions?) of other people to see.

First, Reebok partners with CrossFit and starts to release a CrossFit-Specific clothing line. Now, ESPN2 Prime Time Coverage for 2 weeks in a row? Get ready for the next big wave, people. I told you we were going to take off.
