You guys and gals have got to be kidding me. Every single time I turn around, someone is PR’ing, getting a movement for the first time, or sharing about another 5-10 pounds lost (or gained, depending on the person)! Why hasn’t this streak of successes slowed down yet? 🙂

I am SO PROUD of you folks.

Tonight I was lucky enough to catch TWO “first-time” moments at the gym! The reason that I have “first-time” in quotations is because John was too selfish to wait for me to get my camera ready before he busted out his first Muscle-Up on the rings. Don’t worry, though… he got right back up there and then did his second one for the camera instead!!

Then, about 2 minutes later, JP is trying to figure out how to do BAR Muscle-Ups and busts one out, too! You guys are unreal. And the best part is that I consider these two guys partners-in-crime, too. Congrats on a big night, you two!!

CrossFit Lakewood family in particular….

I rarely “bug” you guys with stuff like this. Usually it’s just “encouragement” 🙂

However, you have one more hour to decide to join US, your CFLW Family, in competing in this year’s CrossFit Games Open! I will be judging athletes right at 5pm tonight at the gym, and I STRONGLY encourage all of you who have “thought about it” but not registered YET to come down and complete the 7 minutes of burpees.

I hope to see a few of you there!

The videos below are from CrossFit HQ, and they show “ordinary” people (who are amazing just like all of you) who decided to take the plunge! Join us… it will be an AMAZING 5 weeks!
The first one is a “summary video” (at 45 seconds long), with shorter bits below!

Just when you heard of some amazing (and some questionable) scores for the first CrossFit Games Open workout 12.1, this happens………

And is caught on video.

Yeah, some people say it’s “easy” for a little guy to move this fast, but homeboy has an ENGINE to keep pushing. He was at 86 reps…. at HALFWAY!!!

161…. I’d take that score. What an amazing performance on this workout by Danila Shokhin from Russia!

“What is strong?”

This commercial from Saucony is awesome. I kind of wish I could have found it BEFORE the workout today! 🙂

Strong, fit, fast… to me, those are all relative terms. Strong in what way? Does strength mean emotional strength, the ability to endure many obstacles and keep going? Or does it mean to say, “I lift things up and put them down….

Fast? Fast at what? Running a 100m dash? Running a marathon? Completing an Iron Man? Fast at stacking cups?

The point of CrossFit is to be good/strong/efficient at… everything. Keep working, keep striving, and you will continue to improve and become “better than yesterday”! That’s all that matters.

Sweet commercial.

The time has come for people to post results from workout 12.1!!!

As we finished the workout at CrossFit Lakewood, someone actually said, “Can you believe it’s been a year already since we did this?” No, I really can’t. The last year has flown by so fast, and so many good things have happened at our gym.

I post this video as a simple reminder to what this whole CrossFit thing is really about. I am more competitive than the next guy… trust me… MORE competitive… but I try not to lose sight as to why I’m doing what I’m doing. Why I train every week. Why competing is fun for me. Because it helps me improve and feel progress with all of the hard work I put in. I really have FUN CrossFitting and spending time with my friends, too!

At the end of the day, your integrity and honest progress is all you have. I know I don’t want to live behind a number that isn’t accurate, and don’t see why anyone else would want to do that, either.

Cheating and lying about scores, weights, etc, defeats the entire purpose of why we do this! Have fun, do your best, and the rest will take care of itself.

CFLW Family, thank you for making week 1 of the 2012 CrossFit Games Open an absolute blast! FOUR MORE TO GO!!!

The workout (which I copied directly from the CrossFit Games Website) is this:

Workout 12.1

Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes of:
Burpees

This workout begins from the standing position. The Athlete will move from flat on the ground to touching an object with both hands that is 6 inches above their max reach. Score is total reps completed.

I came out swinging too hard for sure. When I retry this thing tomorrow, I will pace myself a little more out of the gate.

What did YOU guys think about it? What were some of your strategies? I’m very curious to hear.
GOOD LUCK on Week #1, everyone!

(Sidenote: We have the best athletes at CrossFit Lakewood! Thank you guys so much for your constant support… not only for me, but for each other! This 5-week competition is going to be so amazing.)

Alright guys, so here it is finally.

I recorded this video 2 nights ago, had no internet at home that night then last night it took 3+ hours for this video, and the one of me attempting the workout for the first time, to upload.

Hopefully it’s not too late! Either way, I won’t let a downed internet connection stop me for the rest of the Open!

Advice video #1 starts…. NOW!!

p.s.- I’m serious about the “not trying to call anyone out” part. If you get offended at what I say, simply turn off the video and go on with your day! 🙂

Alright friends, here is episode 1 of my 2012 CrossFit Games Open “Video Blog”.  It’s not pretty, but it’s almost 1 in the morning, and I am le tired! I hope they’ll get better as the weeks go on, and with your help and input, hopefully I can make that happen.

Enjoy this first episode, and let me know what you think!

Happy Sunday, friends! The purpose of this post is to let all of you know that CrossFit Golden has finally opened!
Orion Tulchin (owner of CrossFit Lakewood) and Greg Walker (yep, they own Renegade Fitness with me!) opened the gym together, and it is a beautiful space!

The Grand Opening celebration was yesterday, and it was an absolute blast! The turn-out from friends and family was awesome, the workout was fun, and the socializing after couldn’t have been beat (as usual with this crew of people)!!

Not only did my friend John set up supplements from his company Simply Pure Nutrients (I’ve actually been taking his products for a while and really like them), but Dr. Dorian Haywood from Chiromega Chiropractic came by to work on the athletes, too.

I took a couple of pictures before the party started and wanted to share them with you guys so you could see how amazing the gym looks. Before I share them, though, let me say one thing:

I know I speak for Orion and Greg when I say that this gym COULD NOT have turned out so amazing without the tireless and selfless work of so many of our members. All-day paint sessions, mat installing, moving… and then removing the pull-up rig, I mean it was not easy. The best part of all was that people were all smiles the entire time! You all did an INCREDIBLE job of making CrossFit Golden look as beautiful as it does. THANK YOU!!

Most of you know I like dubstep music. Dubstep dancing is also cool sometimes (Pumped Up Kicks Dubstep, for example), too. If you would have told me 3.5 minutes ago that dubstep HAND dancing would be cool, though… I would have probably laughed at you.

Until I saw this. And yes, it’s a PHONE commercial!

CrossFit talks about improving coordination, right? This requires quite a bit of that, I’d say.

Have a good weekend, friends!  Mine… starrrrttsss……

Now.
