Alright, everyone… the final workout has been released! It just happens to be the same workout that ended the Open last year. Interesting, huh?

My advice and strategy video is featured below. GOOD LUCK!!

I had to give it a go last night because I leave for the airport in a few minutes for a weekend trip, so here is that attempt. I checked my score from last year after I had completed it, and I actually got two MORE reps last year…. not exactly the improvement year-over-year I was looking for, BUT I don’t think I paced myself properly last night. Here’s to hoping I get around to trying it again, and can get a few more reps if I do!

Workout 12.4 was released last night, and here it is:

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 12 minutes of:
150 Wall balls
90 Double-unders
30 Muscle-ups

Not bad, huh? I’m a little under the weather, so I didn’t get to it last night, but my advice on strategy still stands. Enjoy the video, and let me know what you think… and how you do!

2012 CrossFit Games Open workout is out, and week three is under way!

The workout is pasted below, along with my advice video, but here’s the gist of what I advise you guys do:
PACE YOURSELF.

That’s it. Have fun, and let me know if you have any questions!

Workout 12.3
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 18 minutes of:

15 Box jumps (M 24″ box / F 20″ box)
12 Push press (M 115 lb / F 75 lb)
9 Toes-to-bar

Wow, this first attempt at 12.2 rocked my world. I don’t offer too much advice on how I think you guys should approach the WOD, most just sharing my advice to myself… “Stop jumping FORWARDS on nearly every rep, and don’t walk away from the bar so much!”

There are some heartfelt comments about the CFLW crew, though, so that makes this worth posting for me.

GREAT JOB to everyone who was there last night, and good luck to everyone who is either going for the first time or giving it another shot!

Just in case you had any interest in watching my first attempt, here it is…

The first workout of The Open (which consisted of 7 straight minutes of burpees) was one that, in theory, “favored” smaller, lighter guys. The second one, however, favors those who can just throw around a LOT of weight! The gist of it, is that you complete as many snatches as you can in 10 minutes, where the weight increases (significantly) every 30 reps. The first set is 30 reps at a “light” weight, the second 30 reps bump up the weight to a medium/heavy load, and the final set of the 30 is to be completed at a weight that I think is heavier than any HQ-written Snatch WOD I’ve ever seen! Oh yeah… in the event that athletes make it through those 90 reps, the final weight is so heavy, that I would say only the top 5% of athlete in the world will even be able to complete a singe rep. We might as well call it, the Snatchtastic Voyage,….. or something like that…

In my “strategy” video for this one, I talk about the WOD itself, how I think many people in the region will do, and then some basic strategy for how I think it should be approached. If you have any questions about the workout, please don’t hesitate to ask!

The second workout of the 2012 CrossFit Games Open (copied directly from the Games website) is pasted below:

Workout 12.2
Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:

30 Snatch (M 75 / F 45 lbs)
30 Snatch (M 135 / F 75 lbs)
30 Snatch (M 165 / F 100 lbs)
Max Rep Snatch (M 210 / F 120 lbs)

This workout begins from the standing position. The athlete will complete all reps at the first weight before advancing to the next weight. Score is total reps completed in 10min.

CrossFit Lakewood family in particular….

I rarely “bug” you guys with stuff like this. Usually it’s just “encouragement” 🙂

However, you have one more hour to decide to join US, your CFLW Family, in competing in this year’s CrossFit Games Open! I will be judging athletes right at 5pm tonight at the gym, and I STRONGLY encourage all of you who have “thought about it” but not registered YET to come down and complete the 7 minutes of burpees.

I hope to see a few of you there!

The videos below are from CrossFit HQ, and they show “ordinary” people (who are amazing just like all of you) who decided to take the plunge! Join us… it will be an AMAZING 5 weeks!
The first one is a “summary video” (at 45 seconds long), with shorter bits below!

Just when you heard of some amazing (and some questionable) scores for the first CrossFit Games Open workout 12.1, this happens………

And is caught on video.

Yeah, some people say it’s “easy” for a little guy to move this fast, but homeboy has an ENGINE to keep pushing. He was at 86 reps…. at HALFWAY!!!

161…. I’d take that score. What an amazing performance on this workout by Danila Shokhin from Russia!

The workout (which I copied directly from the CrossFit Games Website) is this:

Workout 12.1

Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes of:
Burpees

This workout begins from the standing position. The Athlete will move from flat on the ground to touching an object with both hands that is 6 inches above their max reach. Score is total reps completed.

I came out swinging too hard for sure. When I retry this thing tomorrow, I will pace myself a little more out of the gate.

What did YOU guys think about it? What were some of your strategies? I’m very curious to hear.
GOOD LUCK on Week #1, everyone!

(Sidenote: We have the best athletes at CrossFit Lakewood! Thank you guys so much for your constant support… not only for me, but for each other! This 5-week competition is going to be so amazing.)

Alright guys, so here it is finally.

I recorded this video 2 nights ago, had no internet at home that night then last night it took 3+ hours for this video, and the one of me attempting the workout for the first time, to upload.

Hopefully it’s not too late! Either way, I won’t let a downed internet connection stop me for the rest of the Open!

Advice video #1 starts…. NOW!!

p.s.- I’m serious about the “not trying to call anyone out” part. If you get offended at what I say, simply turn off the video and go on with your day! 🙂

Alright friends, here is episode 1 of my 2012 CrossFit Games Open “Video Blog”.  It’s not pretty, but it’s almost 1 in the morning, and I am le tired! I hope they’ll get better as the weeks go on, and with your help and input, hopefully I can make that happen.

Enjoy this first episode, and let me know what you think!
